ROOT Recovery Coach / Home of New Vision

Job description:

The Rapid Overdose Outreach Team Recovery Coach will work with a team to respond to individuals who have experienced an overdose event within 24-72 hours (about 3 days) or 3-5 hours in the local Emergency Departments. This position is primarily a community outreach-based program. The Recovery Coach has primary responsibility for facilitating access to recovery and treatment services for substance use disorder (SUD), including harm reduction practices. It is crucial that the ROOT Recovery Coach is respectful of all pathways of recovery.

Recovery coach needs to be well-informed about MAT or MAR options and be well-versed in multiple pathways to recovery. Administrative duties include writing reports and solving service delivery problems. While this job description lists duties and responsibilities, it cannot be considered inclusive of all required tasks.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Provide recovery related support to those seeking recovery including not limited to prevention, recovery planning activities, and coordinating service delivery for successful outcomes
  2. Work with the ROOT team members to best assist the client in the recovery process and to help them build their Recovery Capital
  3. Coordinate with outside agencies to provide holistic care for clients
  4. Demonstrate cultural awareness, competency, and humility
  5. Engage in community outreach to increase community awareness of recovery coaching availability, services access, and naloxone distribution
  6. Collect, analyze, and report data
  7. Be a recovery advocate for self-determination of recovery goals directed by the client’s needs and wants.
  8. Other duties and tasks as directed by the ROOT Coordinator

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum requirements for the MDHHS Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) credential, which can be found here: https://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdhhs/RCC_Training_Application_622005 _7.pdf 
  2. Have the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  3. Empathetic and supportive to individuals in a crisis situation
  4. Have a working knowledge of recovery resources in Washtenaw County
  5. Be enthusiastic about recovery and working with individuals who are seeking recovery
  6. Self-motivated and take initiative on tasks that need to be completed
  7. Demonstrate conduct that reflects the values and goals of the agency to be inclusive, non-discriminatory, and free of judgment in interactions with others
  8. Very proficient in communication skills, both verbal and written
  9. Current driver’s license and reliable transportation. Employees must provide a copy of the current driver’s license and proof of auto insurance
  10. This position requires a strong commitment to supporting individuals in their recovery journey. The ability to demonstrate empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude is essential.
  11. Experience with motivational interviewing techniques and knowledge of systems approach is highly desired.
  12. At least two years of continuous recovery from substance use disorders is required.
  13. Able to work with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.

Starting $18 hr
